Gene-editing provides the possibility to edit the DNA of any living thing.

Scientists have found a new gene-editing system, too our growing toolbox, in animals that works like CRISPR but overcomes some of its limitations. 

This new system, called Fanzor, was discovered in various species of plants and animals, and it is more compact and precise than CRISPR. 

Fanzor has the potential to be easier to deliver into human cells, and initial tests showed that it can edit DNA without causing collateral damage. 

While its efficiency needs improvement for medical use, this discovery suggests that there could be more diverse gene-editing systems in nature, opening up new possibilities for precise genetic modifications in the future.
