Engineers have developed an implantable device for treating Type 1 diabetes. 

The device contains insulin-producing islet cells and an on-board oxygen factory that generates oxygen by splitting water vapor in the body, allowing the device to keep blood glucose levels stable for at least a month when implanted into diabetic mice; researchers aim to create a human-sized version of the device for testing in people with Type 1 diabetes.
