New research suggests that artificial neural networks (ANNs) and human brains may learn language in similar ways.

By comparing brain waves of people listening to a sound with signals from a neural network analyzing the same sound, researchers found striking similarities.

Even general-purpose ANNs seemed to process language similarly to human brains, challenging the idea that language processing requires specialized mechanisms.

This insight could lead to a better understanding of language acquisition in both humans and machines.
