Could the development of gene-silencing therapies lead to a future where we can tailor our own genetic makeup to prevent disease, enhance athletic performance, or even extend our lifespan?

A new experimental drug called lepodisiran has been shown to dramatically lower levels of lipoprotein(a), a genetic risk factor for heart disease, in a phase 1 trial. 

This is the first time that a drug has been shown to be effective at lowering Lp(a) levels, and it could have a major impact on the prevention of heart disease.
