Geothermal energy is a relative small part of today's energy output. While still small, the potential for it to be a significant part of a clean energy mix in the future, is there, as new technologies are being developed and breakthroughs are made. 

Recently, a new startup has successfully tested a new way to create clean electricity using Earth's heat. Traditional geothermal power plants need specific locations, but this new approach can work almost anywhere, by using drilling techniques from the oil industry to create pathways for heat from the ground.
