A new type of brain implant called the Layer 7 Cortical Interface has been tested in people for the first time. 

Unlike traditional brain implants, this implant is less invasive and consists of a flexible film with over a thousand tiny electrodes that conform to the brain's surface without piercing it. 

The implant was tested in a study involving three patients, and it successfully recorded and mapped brain activity without causing damage.

This innovative approach could revolutionize brain-computer interfaces and advance medical understanding of the brain, with potential use in diagnosing and treating neurological disorders.
